Educational visits

Educational visits are the bread and butter of Diversity Excursions - an essential part of our goal of exploring the cultural and natural diversity of Morocco with the discerning traveller. Our links with researchers from the Natural History Museum of Marrakech open the door to an indepth look at birds, fossils, mammals, minerals, plants, reptiles and many other aspects of this country, the second richest in biodiversity in the Mediterranean (after Turkey).  With my background in ethnobotany (the study of the relationship between people and plants), I am particularly keen on sharing my growing knowledge of medicinal plants and traditions of Morocco. Sue MacDonald of Boxwod Tours specialises in visits to the most exclusive and beautiful gardens of Europe; the tours feature meetings with garden owners and head gardeners. Boxwood Tours joined forces with the Friends of the Eden Project and Diversity Excursions Ltd. to organize a tour of 'Flora, Gardens and Landscapes' of southern Morocco from 1 - 9 April 2003, includng three days at Jnane Tamsna. Boxwood Tours is exploring the possibility of launching garden tours in southern Morocco in 2004.

Diversity Excursions Ltd. assisted Explore on an American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) study tour called ‘Morocco: The Jewel of North Africa’, from 20 October – 3 November 2002, which was accompanied by Professor Emeritus of History William R. Polk – author of The United States and the Arab World and The Civilization of Islam.  Our next collaboration will be an AMNH Margaret Mead Signature Series tour on 'Daily Life in Southern Morocco' led by Susan Schaefer Davis and Gary Martin (date to be established).

American Musem of Natural History

 

As part of another Explore - Diversity Excursions collaboration, Philip Lovejoy of the Harvard Museum of Natural History will lead ‘Behind the Walls: The Secrets of Morocco’s Medieval Cities, Souks, Kasbahs and the Great Atlas Mountains’. The tour - accompanied by Gary J. Martin and other specialist guest lecturers - will take place 27 March to 10 April 2004.
